Basketball Picks: March 6

Didn’t like any games on Wednesday but I have three picks for Thursday:

LSU -1.5 over Vanderbilt

LSU isn’t a great road team but they basically just have to win this game to cover. LSU is still on the bubble of the NCAA tournament and needs to win this game. The Tigers front court led by Johnny O’Bryant and Jordan Mickey should be able to dominate Vanderbilt in this matchup.

Michigan State -4.5 over Iowa

The Spartans have dropped two straight and six of their last ten games. Their most recent loss was a shock defeat to Illinois at home on Saturday. Well coached teams don’t lose three straight games. Tom Izzo will make sure his team is ready to bounce back against an Iowa team who have had trouble beating good teams recently.

Miami +2.5 over San Antonio

The Heat have a great chance to move closer to Indiana in the Eastern Conference standings after the Pacers fell in Charlotte on Wednesday night. The Heat will be focused for this game after losing Tuesday in Houston. I’m very confident with this pick especially since Miami is an underdog.

Basketball Picks: March 4

I was 0-2 in my first day of doing this. Probably will stick with college games the rest of the month. I have two picks today.

Creighton -3.5 over Georgetown

Creighton dropped their third conference game of the season on Saturday at Xavier and stay on the road with a game at Georgetown Tuesday. Creighton bounced back with wins in their previous two losses and I expect them to do the same tonight.

South Carolina +12 over Florida

South Carolina pulled off a huge upset against Kentucky on Saturday. They stay home to play the SEC leading Florida Gators. Florida is undefeated in SEC play and have had two close calls last time on the road against Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. I think the pressure of staying undefeated has caught up with the Gators. They play Kentucky the last game of the regular season so this could be a lookahead game for Billy Donavan’s team.

Blackhawks Trade Pirri, Resign Bollig

It has been an eventful 24 hours for the Blackhawks with the trade deadline looming on Wednesday. Brandon Pirri was traded for a third and a fifth round draft pick on Sunday. Brandon Bollig signed a three-year extension Monday morning.

Pirri led the AHL in scoring last season and had brief chances with the Blackhawks this season. He was supposed to be the second line center of the future, but struggles in his defensive game kept him out of favor with Joel Quenneville. Pirri didn’t have a spot in the long-term plans of the team so they sent him to familiar trading partner Florida.

The Bollig extension is a three-year, $3.75 million deal. He has dressed in every game this year and has settled on a line with Marcus Kruger and Ben Smith. Quenneville has showed trust in the line shutting down teams best forwards. Continue reading

Basketball Picks: March 3

I took a break for a month picking games on the website after a successful bowl and NFL playoff run. With one week left in the college basketball regular season, I feel like it’s a perfect time to start posting picks here. Conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament is my favorite time of year so I will be sharing my picks for some of those games throughout the month of March. I will also throw in a NBA pick if there is a game I have an opinion on. Here are my two picks for Monday: Continue reading
